Kathmandu, 6 November : The second day of Yamapanchak of the Tihar festival, Kukur Tihar is being all over the country today.
On this day, the dogs are worshiped and are offered garlands, tika and delicious food. This day is celebrated to acknowledge the cherished relationship between humans and dogs. Hindu mythology considers dogs as messenger of Yamraj, the God of Death.
This day is also called Narak Chaturdashi. People take holy dips in rivers and ponds at sunrise on this day in observance of the Narak Chaturdashi. After taking the holy bath, devotees light what is known as the Yamadeep facing it southwards.
