NC demands release of its student leaders

Kathmandu, 6 February : Major opposition Nepali Congress has demanded the immediate release of its student leaders associated to Nepal Students Union.

Issuing a press release on Tuesday, the NC condemned the arrest of the NSU leaders and demanded immediate release. The NSU has been waging agitation arguing that the country witnessed growing number of violence, rape, and corruption. The NSU also showed concern over the activities carried out against constitution, federalism and parliamentary norms.

In the press release, Chief Secretary at Party Office, Krishna Prasad Poudel, informed that NSU leaders Parshuram Basnet, Diphan Bhujel and Binaya Poudel, were detained with false accusation.

The NSU leaders including its central leader Nain Singh Mahar were arrested from New Baneshwor, Kathmandu, in course of the demonstration on Tuesday. The NSU leaders were arrested in Pokhara as well.

Meanwhile, the NC has thanked all those participating in the protest rallies organized across the country on February 4. The party further said it would intensify its protest against undemocratic activities.

The NC had organized protest programmes against the government activities including corruption, violence, rape and failure to work for people in all 77 districts.
